Moderate exercise can help to fight the flu. Exercise can be extremely useful in preventing the onset of respiratory infection, however more exercise does not automatically result in a lower chance of catching influenza. In fact studies show that doing too much exercise leaves us weaker and more prone to infection. Light to moderate exercise on the other hand is beneficial for health and for our immune system.
New evidence suggests that even doing as little as taking a brisk 30 minute daily walk can keep the flu at bay. For the best impact on health it is recommended that you carry out between 45-60 minutes of light to moderate exercise at least 3 times a week. Light exercise includes walking and jogging.
The Prima-med doctors confirm this is sound advice for those worried about infection during the flu season. “It is important to take exercise all year round to maintain a healthy immune system. The temptation to avoid the gym or exercising outside during the colder months can be detrimental.” confirmed Dr Popalous.
